Turkey is the Country of Honour at MIPCOM 2015

With a population of more than 76 million, Turkey has a strong domestic market for TV content

The Turkish television industry ranks as the second-fastest growing in the world. As the Country of Honour, we would like to share this dynamism at MIPCOM 2015, which provides a global showcase for Turkey to advertise its treasures to the world

MUMBAI: Reed MIDEM has announced that Turkey will be the Country of Honour at MIPCOM 2015. MIPCOM, one of the the world's biggest audio visual market brings the brighest minds and content creators and buyers from over 100 countries. MIPCOM 2015 will take place in Cannes, 5-8 October 2015.

“Kosem The Empress/Magnificent Century” will be shown during the MIPCOM 2015 International Drama Series screenings. Produced by Tims Productions and distributed by Global Agency, “Magnificent Century” has become a top-rated show in the international marketplace. The Ottoman Empire costume drama series symbolises how Turkish TV output has broken onto the international stage. Turkish TV drama exports are now estimated to be worth around $200 million annually. The screening announcement was made during a recent press conference at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC), the official partner of the Turkey Country of Honour programme at MIPCOM, in the presence of major MIPCOM exhibitors from the Turkish TV industry.

Ibrahim Çaglar, President of the ICOC, outlined details of the events planned for the October tradeshow, in front an audience including top Turkish acting talent Ismail Filiz and Burcu Kara,stars of the popular local series “Milat”, actress Wilma Elles from the local series “Filinta” and famous Turkish actor Tamer Yigit.

Turkish exhibitors currently confirmed to be attending MIPCOM include TRT, Kanal D, Global Agency, ITV- Intermedya, ATV, Calinos Entertainment, AyYapim. The MIPCOM Country of Honour programme will also feature a series of high-level conferences from Turkish industry figures across the whole television sector, screening showcases, and business networking events.

In recent years, the country has become a fresh source for adaptable formats.
